The History of the BLUE COW

In 1656, three Englishmen purchased a colony on Long Island in New York from Dutch settlers with seven quarts of liquor, two coats, four shirts and eleven ounces of powder. Surrounding Northport’s beautiful harbor are abundant fields of green that were well suited for farms and cattle. The early settlers grazed cattle on these pastures around the harbor, and before long the area became known as Great Cow Harbor. Cow Harbor Day continues to this day as an annual festival in Northport Village.

The Blue Cow inherits the rich tradition and history of Northport village. The color blue is found in the flag of the Netherlands and represents the first settlers of the area. Now the more than 7,500 residents of Northport are sharing their heritage with anyone who loves Northport, or anyone who loves cows for that matter. “Bluecowear” is available to anyone, where fun and comfortable clothing, with a dash of tasteful heritage, is desired.
